Food Quality vs Calories
Most people think nutrition is all about hitting calories or your daily macro targets. And yes - they are important.
But what you eat matters just as much as how much you eat.
Not all calories are created equal - 500 calories from whole foods will keep you fuller, more energised, and satisfied compared to 500 calories from processed foods.
Whole foods - like wholegrains, meat, fish, eggs, fruit and veg - tend to:
- Keep you fuller for longer
- Give you more steady energy
- Support your overall health
Ultra-processed foods - foods high in added sugar, salt and saturated fat - are usually:
- Easier to overeat
- Less filling
- Lower in the essential nutrients your body needs
So even if you’re hitting your calories or daily macros, if most of your food is low quality, you may still struggle with hunger, energy, and staying on track.
Summary
Calories matter, but the quality of your food makes a big difference in how you feel, your energy levels and the results you get.
